Modeling Tip
Removing Plant Receptors in AERMOD View
When modeling with AERMOD, it's common to remove receptors that fall within the boundary of the facility's property so as to only calculate concentrations that fall in the ambient environment.
Lakes Environmental’s AERMOD View application contains a special tool which makes simple the process of removing on-property, or plant, receptors. Watch the video below for a demonstration.

Supreme Court Will Not Block Mercury Air Pollution Rule
March 04, 2016 - WASHINGTON - March 3 (Reuters) - The U.S. Supreme Court sided with the Obama administration on Thursday in rebuffing a bid by 20 states to halt an Environmental Protection Agency rule to curb emissions of mercury and other toxic pollutants from power plants.
The action came about a month after the high court put on hold federal regulations to curb carbon dioxide emissions mainly from coal-fired power plants, the centerpiece of President Barack Obama's strategy to combat climate change.
Chief Justice John Roberts denied a petition made last week by the states, led by Michigan, to put the rule on hold after a federal appeals court decided in December to leave it intact while the EPA reassessed costs of implementing the regulation.
Law Firm in New Legal Threat Over UK Air Pollution
March 1, 2016 - The UK government has been warned to drastically reduce air pollution or face renewed legal action.
In April the Supreme Court ruled an immediate plan was needed after the UK breached EU limits for nitrogen dioxide (NO2).
The government said it was committed to cleaning the air and had delivered its plans accordingly.
But environmental law firm ClientEarth, which took the original case, said the plans still do not protect health.
2016 Environmental Performance Rankings Show Progress and Failure
February 26, 2016 - Yale University and Columbia University, together with the World Economic Forum, have released the 2016 Environmental Performance Index (EPI), which tracks how well countries protect human health and ecosystems. According to their analysis, "nearly every country" has improved their "environmental performance" on 20 different indicators over the past decade, while land and marine ecosystems only continue to decline.
EPA Announces National Enforcement Initiatives for Coming Years
February 18, 2016 - WASHINGTON - The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) today announced its seven National Enforcement Initiatives for fiscal years 2017-2019, which focus on national pollution challenges where EPA’s enforcement efforts will protect public health. For the next cycle starting on October 1, 2016, EPA will retain four of its current National Enforcement Initiatives, add two new initiatives, and expand one to include a new area of focus.
NASA Partners on Air Quality Study in East Asia
February 24, 2016 - WASHINGTON - Feb. 24, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- NASA and the Republic of Korea are developing plans for a cooperative field study of air quality in May and June to advance the ability to monitor air pollution accurately from space.
The Korea U.S.-Air Quality study (KORUS-AQ) will assess air quality across urban, rural and coastal areas of South Korea using the combined observations of aircraft, ground sites, ships and satellites. Findings will play a critical role in the development of observing systems of ground and space-based sensors and computer models to provide improved air quality assessments for decision makers.
