Modeling Tip
Assessing Surface Meteorological Data Quality in AERMET
An important part of processing meteorological data for use in the AERMOD air dispersion model is making sure the data are of adequate quality.
AERMET, the meteorological data preprocessor for AERMOD, comes with some integrated quality assurance or quality control options that can be used to verify the data. This video discusses how to use these options via AERMET View, the meteorological pre-processor within the AERMOD View software.

European Court of Justice Finds Against Bulgaria in Air Quality Infringement Case
April 6, 2017 - The European Court of Justice (ECJ) has ruled against Bulgaria in a case brought by the European Commission against the country over its failure to implement measures to reduce air pollution.
In a ruling posted on the court’s website on April 5, the ECJ said that Bulgaria had failed to fulfil its obligations under EU’s Directive 2008/50 on ambient air quality, both with regard to keeping air pollution below the limits stipulated by the directive and it its obligation to keep the period during which pollution levels exceed mandated norms as short as possible.
Groups Appeal After EPA Refuses to Ban Pesticide Linked to Brain Damage in Children
April 5, 2017 - Environmental groups are asking a federal appeals court to order the Environmental Protection Agency to permanently ban chlorpyrifos, a pesticide linked to many health hazards, particularly to children’s brains.
The groups, Pesticide Action Network and the Natural Resources Defense Council, are represented by the Earthjustice legal defense group.
Thousands of British Children Exposed to Illegal Levels of Air Pollution
April 4, 2017 - Hundreds of thousands of children are being exposed to illegal levels of damaging air pollution from diesel vehicles at schools and nurseries across England and Wales, a joint investigation by the Guardian and Greenpeace’s investigations unit has revealed.
The analysis of the most recent government data exposes how dangerous levels of nitrogen dioxide (NO2) pollution from diesel traffic are not limited to large metropolitan centres, but threaten the health of children and young people in towns and cities from Newcastle to Plymouth.
El Salvador Passes World’s First Total Ban on Metals Mining
March 31, 2017 - CEl Salvador has become the first nation in the world to ban the mining of gold and other metals, ending a decades-long fight by activists to protect the country’s limited water resources.
Lawmakers, many with signs reading “No to Mining, Yes to Life” on their desks, voted unanimously on Thursday in favor of the ban, which will end large-scale mining activities in El Salvador immediately. According to Mongabay, no old permits or license applications will be grandfathered in. The federal government will grant small-scale artisanal gold miners a two-year grace period to close their operations, and will provide technical and financial support to help them do so.
