Modeling Tip
Creating Projects from MMIF Output in CALPUFF View
The Mesoscale Model Interface Program (MMIF) formats prognostic meteorological model (WRF, MM5) output for use in air quality models.
CALPUFF View is specially equipped to help users quickly create new projects from CALPUFF-ready MMIF output. Watch our video below for an overview of this process.

UN Climate Change Report Contrasts With Recent EPA Policy Changes
October 9, 2018 - A report from the international scientific authority on climate change warning consequences could be drastic if "rapid, far-reaching and unprecedented changes" are not made to mitigate global warming contrasts starkly with Trump administration policies decreasing federal regulation of greenhouse gas emissions.
The report, released Monday, evaluates what consequences the world will face if global temperatures increase by 1.5 or 2 degrees Celsius -- 2.7 or 3.6 degrees Fahrenheit -- as part of a directive to the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change when the Paris Climate Accord was adopted in 2015. President Donald Trump withdrew the United States from the agreement in June 2017, keeping a campaign promise.
Big Increase in Economic Costs if Emissions Cuts are Delayed
September 28, 2018 - Stronger efforts to cut greenhouse gas emissions should be undertaken to avoid global warming of more than 1.5°C - without relying on potentially more expensive or risky technologies to remove CO2 from the atmosphere or reduce the amount of sunlight reaching the Earth’s surface.
A comprehensive new analysis involving researchers from UEA warns that the target of limiting global warming to 1.5°C could soon become too economically expensive to justify, despite the benefits it could provide.
Funded By New Tax Credits, U.S. Carbon-Capture Network Could Double Global CO2 Headed Underground
September 26, 2018 - TWith the right public infrastructure investment, the United States could as much as double the amount of carbon dioxide emissions currently captured and stored worldwide within the next six years, according to an analysis by Princeton University researchers.
The authors propose in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences a pipeline network that would transfer carbon dioxide waste from ethanol refineries in the American Midwest — where grains are fermented to produce the alcohol-based fuel — to oil fields in West Texas. The captured carbon would then be pumped into near-depleted oil fields through a technique known as enhanced oil recovery, where the carbon dioxide helps recover residual oil while ultimately being trapped underground.
Europe’s Policy to Treat Wood as Low-Carbon Fuel Poised to Harm Global Forests
September 12, 2018 - Europe’s decision to promote the use of wood as a “renewable fuel” will likely greatly increase Europe’s greenhouse gas emissions and cause severe harm to the world’s forests, according to a new paper published in Nature Communications.
European officials agreed on final language for a renewable energy directive earlier this summer that will almost double Europe’s use of renewable energy by 2030. Against the advice of 800 scientists, the directive now treats wood as a low-carbon fuel, meaning that whole trees or large portions of trees can be cut down deliberately to burn. Such uses go beyond papermaking wastes and other wood wastes, which have long been used for bioenergy.
